Exciting Developments in the 'Cradle for Nature' Project

We are delighted to share an important update regarding the 'Cradle for Nature' project. Following the sad death of the project's founder, Dr. Martin Haigh, the original team faced challenges in continuing their work. Over a year ago, they reached out to Stump Up For Trees for assistance and last Autumn we supported them during their final data collection trip at the site, a 30-year research endeavour (Nov 2023). Following discussions with the Pontypool Park Estate, we are honoured to take over the management lease this year, ensuring their legacy continues.

This site stands as an exemplary pilot project, showcasing the pivotal role trees can play in the restoration of soil and ecology in former industrial areas. The original project envisioned a network of wooded landscapes to aid in the regeneration of the South Wales coalfields. We are committed to continuing this vision and building on the groundwork laid by the initial team.

Our immediate priorities include maintaining the site, carefully evaluating its current state, and fostering strong relationships with local farmers and the community. We will also be engaging with the estate and community council to discuss long-term plans for the site. This collaborative effort is vital to achieving sustainable and impactful environmental restoration.

We are excited to keep you updated on our progress as we move forward. Together, we can make a significant impact and realize the full potential of this visionary project.
