Our Community
The Stump Up For Trees Community Tree Nursery is at the heart of our logistics and operations. A warm and welcoming hub for our volunteers, and a key resource providing us with resilience in a rapidly developing sector.
We hold a regular volunteer day on a Thursday, with additional days during the month on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
As well as the home for our trees, we hold many of our events and post Bracken Bash BBQs at the nursery.
Based just outside Abergavenny in the village of Bettws, we hope you can join us, growing, tending and caring for our trees before they go out into the hills.
Our Trees
We are incredibly fortunate to have been donated a large number of seedlings by Coed Cymru | The Woodland Trust Wales.
As we plant in difficult and often Bracken covered terrain, it can be very hard for these trees - having been grown in the very best and kindest conditions in a commercial nursery - to have the blanket ripped off and being thrust out into dense bracken!
So, we grow on these saplings, keeping the roots constrained, to allow a stronger, thicker stem. Enabling us to plant out a tree that is a little taller has become a little more accustomed to our Welsh climate.
In addition we are growing our own trees from seed, particularly where Welsh provenance is hard to come by from larger providers. Watch this space for news on our seed collection program starting this Autumn 2023!
