In 2025 we reached out to the Sugar Loaf community to talk about a new project that was being submitted to the Welsh Government Integrated Natural Resources Scheme (INRS). INRS funds collaborative projects that help farmers, foresters, and land managers work together to enhance the natural environment and sustainable use of natural resources.  

Local farmers, alongside Stump up for Trees and the National Trust teamed up to bid for INRS funding for a regeneration project on Sugar Loaf. Our newly formed organisation ‘Sugar Loaf Regeneration Farm Partnership CIC’ (a Community Interest Company) is delighted to confirm that it has been awarded a grant to support our project for the next 2.5 years.  

The CIC will manage any project funds received for the benefit of the Sugar Loaf community. We want to create more opportunities for economic resilience for local farms and communities, improve management for nature and biodiversity, and find new ways of working to ensure that the Sugar Loaf and the surrounding area is well-prepared for climate change, economic and geopolitical uncertainty.  

The CIC will work with local land-owners, -users and -managers in key pilot projects in, on and around the Sugar Loaf to test different ways of managing the land, so that it is better for all. This is likely to involve habitat creation, conservation grazing, targeted tree planting, regeneration and bracken management. We will also explore access improvement, agriculture diversification, better water quality, and flood/fire/drought risk management. We plan to explore new ways to work productively, collectively and collaboratively together to make decisions, upskill local people and develop a local network of community suppliers.   

We are now in the process of setting the project in motion; recruiting for a new Project Manager role, communicating with the community and broader stakeholders about the project, engaging with potential new members of the CIC or suppliers for project activity.

Yn 2025, fe wnaethon ni gysylltu â chymuned Pen y Fâl i siarad am brosiect newydd a oedd yn cael ei gyflwyno i Gynllun Adnoddau Naturiol Integredig (INRS) Llywodraeth Cymru. Mae’r INRS yn ariannu prosiectau cydweithredol sy'n helpu ffermwyr, coedwigwyr a rheolwyr tir i gydweithio er mwyn gwella’r amgylchedd naturiol a defnydd cynaliadwy o adnoddau naturiol.  

Ymunodd ffermwyr lleol, ochr yn ochr â Ceiniogi’r Coed a'r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol, i wneud cais am gyllid INRS ar gyfer prosiect adfywio ar Ben y Fâl. Mae ein sefydliad newydd ei ffurfio, 'CBC Partneriaeth Adfywio Fferm Pen y Fâl' (Cwmni Buddiant Cymunedol) yn falch iawn o gadarnhau ei fod wedi derbyn grant i gefnogi ein prosiect am y 2.5 mlynedd nesaf.  

Bydd y CBC yn rheoli unrhyw arian prosiect a dderbynnir er budd cymuned Pen y Fâl. 

Rydym am greu mwy o gyfleoedd ar gyfer cydnerthedd economaidd i ffermydd a chymunedau lleol, gwella rheolaeth ar gyfer natur a bioamrywiaeth, a dod o hyd i ffyrdd newydd o weithio i sicrhau bod Pen y Fâl a'r ardal gyfagos wedi'i baratoi'n dda ar gyfer newid hinsawdd, ansicrwydd economaidd a geo-wleidyddol.  

Bydd y CBC yn gweithio gyda thirfeddianwyr, defnyddwyr a rheolwyr lleol mewn prosiectau peilot allweddol ym Mhen y Fâl a’r cyffiniau i brofi gwahanol ffyrdd o reoli'r tir, fel ei fod yn well i bawb. Mae hyn yn debygol o gynnwys creu cynefinoedd, pori er lles cadwraeth, plannu coed wedi'i dargedu, adfywio a rheoli rhedyn. Byddwn hefyd yn archwilio gwella mynediad, arallgyfeirio amaethyddol, gwell ansawdd dŵr, a rheoli risg llifogydd/tân/sychder. Rydym yn bwriadu archwilio ffyrdd newydd o weithio'n gynhyrchiol, ar y cyd ac yn gydweithredol i wneud penderfyniadau, uwchsgilio pobl leol a datblygu rhwydwaith lleol o gyflenwyr cymunedol.   

Rydym bellach yn y broses o roi’r prosiect ar waith; recriwtio ar gyfer rôl Rheolwr Prosiect newydd, cyfathrebu â’r gymuned a rhanddeiliaid ehangach ynglŷn â’r prosiect, ymgysylltu ag aelodau newydd posibl o’r CBC neu gyflenwyr ar gyfer gweithgaredd prosiect.
