Our Trees
We are incredibly fortunate to have been donated a large number of seedlings by Coed Cymru | The Woodland Trust Wales.
As we plant in difficult and often Bracken covered terrain, it can be very hard for these trees - having been grown in the very best and kindest conditions in a commercial nursery - to have the blanket ripped off and being thrust out into dense bracken!
So, we grow on these saplings, keeping the roots constrained, to allow a stronger, thicker stem. Enabling us to plant out a tree that is a little taller has become a little more accustomed to our Welsh climate.
In addition we are growing our own trees from seed, particularly where Welsh provenance is hard to come by from larger providers. Our Seed to Tree program, enabling agency from seed collections through to Woodland monitoring, began in Autumn 2023 and has made great strides in bridging knowledge and access gaps. Our nursery has had huge changes between the start of this program and Autumn 2024 thanks to a sterling effort from our volunteers and the support of the Brecon Beacons Nature Recovery programme.
